Play Therapy

Play Therapy

The University of North Texas says of play therapy:

Play therapy is to children what counseling is to adults. Play therapy utilizes play, children’s natural medium of expression, to help them express their feelings more easily through toys instead of words.”

The play therapist creates a safe space where children are able to work out emotions and feelings and incorporate new skills and strategies that help them overcome challenges, they are facing in the world around them, and challenge and practice new behaviors that allow for them to accept themselves and others. Play therapy is typically used for children between the ages of 3 and 12. Online therapy is not always a fit for younger clients to work individually with a therapist online. However, with younger children the therapist is able to teach parents play therapy skills to work with their child during a session where the therapist, client, and parent are available online together.
