What will the sessions look like?
All sessions are 45-50 minutes in length. Longer sessions can be requested, price will vary.
Individual Sessions
During the first session, you will have an opportunity to get to know the therapist and the therapist will get to know you. This is a great time to make sure that you and the therapist are a great fit. You will have the opportunity to ask questions and share current concerns that you would like to work on in therapy. You and the therapist will work together to establish goals for future sessions.
After the initial session, the therapist will individualize sessions to meet your needs and support you to achieve the goals that were established. As therapy continues goals can be changed or adjusted to meet your needs.
Children Sessions:
When working with children, the first session will be reserved for the parent. The therapist will meet with the parent prior to meeting the child. This is a great opportunity to share information about your child and for the therapist to prepare strategies that will meet the needs of your child. Every fifth session after the first session, the therapist will have a parent session without the child. Parent sessions are great opportunities for the therapist to assess progress, support parents, and address any parent concerns. Parents are welcome to meet with the therapist briefly at the beginning of each session for any immediate needs prior to the scheduled parent session.
When the therapist needs to speak with a parent during a child
session, the therapist will shorten the time with the child so they may have enough time to speak with the parent and maintain the 45-50 minutes allotted for the session.
Couple Sessions
The first session follows what would occur in an individualized session, however both partners get an opportunity to share concerns. Future sessions may include both partners together in sessions, or sessions that split time between the two partners based on the goals of the couple and strategies needed to support those goals.
